Live heart transplant in Bangalore now
Bengaluru, Jan 3: In a first of its kind in Bangalore, a live heart transplant will be taking place at the BGS Global Hospital. The heart would be transported from the MS Ramaiah hospital.
The heart belongs to Balaji, who was injured in a road accident on Jan 1 in Bangalore. He was declared brain dead when he was taken to the hospital. That is when his parents decided to donate his heart. Unlike previous occasions, when hearts were transported to Chennai, the heart is under the process of transportation to BGS hospital. And helping with the process is Bangalore police who heeded to the request to use the green corridor with zero traffic from MS Ramaya hospital in Yashwantpur to BGS in Kengeri.
Earlier, in a separate occasion, doctors, traffic police, and airport officials in Bangalore and Chennai transported a live heart within just 2 hours from BGS hospital to Fortis in Chennai-a length of 350 kilometers-for a timely transplantation.
