Kolkata, May 31: Concerned over the attacks on its activists, supporters and leaders in West Bengal, the Left Front will meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issue June 9, a CPI-M leader said Saturday.

"Since the Lok Sabha polls there have been concerted attacks on our leaders, activists and supporters which has resulted in four deaths besides more than 1,000 of our supporters having been injured.

"A Left Front delegation will meet the chief minister (June 9) at the state secretariat urging to stop this violence and atrocities that has been unleashed by the ruling party," said Communist Party of India- Marxist state secretariat member Rabin Deb.

Deb claimed that several of the Left legislators and former legislators have been assaulted and a number of its party offices have been attacked, ransacked, destroyed and burnt.

While Leader of Opposition Suryakanta Misra has written to the chief minister to immediately halt attacks by the ruling party, Left Front chairman Biman Bose Saturday led a delegation to Arambag in Hooghly district where a large number of its supporters have been under attack allegedly by Trinamool activists.

"Under this government, democracy has been under constant attack. Victory and defeat are integral part of democracy but that doesn't mean the opposition activists have to bear the brunt of the ruling party's atrocities," said Bose.
