Mumbai, Mar 24: David Headley who is being cross examined at a court in Mumbai today said that he believes that an attempt was made to kill the Shiv Sena Chief, Bal Thackeray. Headley however said immediately that he heard about it, but had no first hand knowledge of the same.
Headley is being cross examined by a court in Mumbai since yesterday and this exercise would last four days. When further asked about this revelation, Headley told the court that the man who made the life bid on Thackeray managed to escape from the police.
Headley further went on to state that the attempt was made, but Thackeray was not harmed. He also stated that the man who made the life bid was arrested by the police. However he had fled from custody later on, Headley also told the court today.
Headley has in the past too spoken about the Shiv Sena. During his testimony, he said that he was told to survey the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Mumbai.
I visited the Shiv Sena Bhavan twice on the instructions given to me by my handler, Sajid Mir, Headley had testified. He was however not sure as to why the details given by him were not used.
He further stated that he had become friends with a Shiv Sena man. I became friends with him with an intention of getting closer to the Shiv Sena Bhavan so that I could gather information, Headley had also said.
