Kupwara: Civilian killed in army firing, locals demand bodies of terrorists
It was not ascertained if injuries caused to others were a result of army firing or the clashes that broke out.
One person was killed and many injured as the Indian Army opened fire as clashes broke out in Kupwara. The army opened fire on civilians who had gathered at the encounter site. While the Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed the death of a civilian due to bullet injuries, it was not ascertained if injuries caused to others were a result of army firing or the clashes that broke out.
Earlier in the day stone pelters stopped the army from visiting the encounter site. More than 200 civilians had gathered to protest against Indian army even as three soldiers lost their life in an early morning attack on a camp by terrorists. Civilians who had gathered demanded that the dead bodies of the terrorists be handed over to them.
Three soldiers including a captain were killed when terrorists opened fire at personnel inside the artillery base. The encounter that lasted for four hours also killed two terrorists. Combing operations for more terrorists were carried out after the encounter.
