Nashik, Jul 22: Marred by poor facilities at the ongoing Kumbh Mela here, a seer from Ayodhaya has sat on an indefinite fast pressing for his demand to get the three plots allotted to him in nearby vicinity.
A 'Sadhu gram' (residential arrangement for saints and seers of 'akhadas') has been set up where sadhus different religious groups and organisation are taking part in the biggest congregation and sadhus have been allotted plots for their stay.
Ganeshdas Maharaj said he has started an indefinite fast from yesterday and will continue till his demand of facilitating him all the three plots, allocated to him, in the same vicinity, is met. "I am from Ayodhya and we have three temples.
We have been given plots but I had written to the administration in March demanding that all the three should be given either in a row or in the same area.
It is causing inconvenience to our people to stay aloof at different corners," he said. The seer said the Sadhu Gram lacks basic facilities and water-logging due to rains is only adding up to their woes. "We have asked the administration to clear water- logging.
But they are not paying heed towards our demands. I have began my indefinite fast and warned them if steps are not taken, I intensify my agitation," he said.
Meanwhile, Kumbh Mela officer and deputy collector, Nashik, Mahesh Patil said the process of distribution of plots was completed earlier as per regulations.
He said, "The administration has provided all basic amenities to mahants, sadhus, and others. There should be no reason why they have to go for such fasting."
