New Delhi, July 2: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha Singh on Thursday sought to clarify that the case of Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas has been handed over to Delhi Police as part of normal procedure.

Rubbishing the AAP's projection of the commission's reply to the Delhi High Court stating "DCW's closure of proceedings against Kumar Vishwas" was any kind of "victory of truth", Barkha Singh clarified that "proceedings against Vishwas were not dropped".

She said rather the case has been handed over to police following "the commission's normal procedure".

"If a person fails to appear before the commission even after several summons, then we hand over the case to the police. This is our case handling policy. The same was followed in Kumar Vishwas's case," Singh told IANS.

"So AAP should not consider it as 'victory of truth'," she added.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) on Wednesday attacked the DCW, saying its initial proceedings against Vishwas were meant to malign his image.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday was informed by the DCW chief that no proceedings were pending against Vishwas on the complaint filed by a woman volunteer of the AAP.

The complainant had participated in Vishwas's poll campaign in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general elections. She had gone public, asking Vishwas to deny "rumours" that they were having an affair.

The DCW summoned Vishwas after she approached the women commission.
