"The response has been overwhelming for us. We are already running out of stock," Sudhangshu Dey of Deys' Publishing said. These publishers are publishing Banerjee's books since 1995 and admit that the last five day's sales were something unexpected as thousands of copies of her books were sold in the last five days.
In 2013, her books worth Rs 10 lakh were sold, earning her a royalty of Rs 1 lakh.
Although a very busy politician, Banerjee ensures that she releases at least one book in every year's Book Fair. Some of her latest books that have earned her a lot of fame as an author include 'Poribortan' (Change), 'Kobita' (Poems) and 'My Unforgettable Memories'.
Her last year's book of poems 'Netai' were critically acclaimed for her portrayal of human suffering, protests and human rights violations. Based on the killing on 9 unarmed villagers in the Netai village in Midnapore, the book shows her in a new light. Two of her other books 'Maa' and 'Pallabi' have been critically acclaimed, while children take great pleasure in her 'Shishu Shathi' and 'Ajab Chhora'. However, 'Upalabdhi' (Achievement), which is a collection of political essays continues to be at the top.
