Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 11: In a first of its kind attempt to integrate transgenders in the society, Kerala will set up a justice board for transgenders, which is aimed at ensuring justice and equality for members of the community.
This board is a part of the transgender policy announced two months ago. This will hear the transgenders exclusively and bring them into the mainstream.
The board will also provide free legal aid to check growing discrimination and violence against them. After their recognition by the Supreme Court in 2014, many people in this community came out openly to claim their rights. However, many of them faced with violence.
The board will set up a 24X7 helpline, issue ID cards and ensure hassle-free arangements to mark their status in all records. Home care facilities to those ostracised by their families will also be provided. Also, educational facilities will be provided for the third gender.
