Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 5: The Poonthura Grade Sub-Inspector has been suspended after he tampered with the genital organ of a CPM activist on Wednesday for showing black flag to the convoy of the state's Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
The incident took place when the convoy of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan arrived for the inauguration of the district procurement centre of Horticorp in Anayaraat, near Thiruvananthapuram.
According to reports, 32-year-old Jayaprasad, a CPM activist was brutally attacked by Poonthura Grade Sub-Inspector Vijayadas.
Later, he was suspended by the DGP on the Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan's directive.
The Grade SI purposefully stamped the genitals of CPM activist, while other cops held him tight. Jayaprasad of Thamarabhagam near Murinjapalam was admitted to the Medical College Hospital following the attack.
He collapsed on the spot after Vijayadas repeatedly stamped on his groin region.
According to ADGP (South Zone) A Hemachandran, "the officer was beyond the limits".
"While all other cops were trying to apprehend the protester, he alone was seen attacking him. The medical reports showed that there were no major injuries on his private parts," he said.
The protest was the part of the CPM strike demanding resignation of Chandy in the solar scam.
The cop stamped the genitals of CPM activist, while other cops held him tight.
The protesters showed black flags and threw rotten eggs on the vehicles of CM and agricultural minister.
The police lathicharged the protesting activists who had blocked the CM's convoy for waving black flags.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has demanded that a case should be registered against the policemen who had roughed up the CPM activist Jayaprasad.
