New Delhi, Aug 19: Burhan Muzzafar Wani is 20 years old armed and dangerous.
He is the commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen and this youth who once had scored 90 per cent in his examinations, today carries a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
He is all over the social media and is very often seen posing with a gun and what he has managed to do is rope in nearly 30 to 35 educated youth into the fold of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
The new face of Kashmir:
Wani today is the new face of the Kashmir militant movement. He writes on his profile that his dream is to fly the Islam flag on Red Fort. Last month OneIndia had reported (/india/meet-kashmir-20-year-old-militant-burhan-muzzafar-wani-1815168.html) that he has been making waves on the social media and if he goes unchecked he can become extremely dangerous.
However Wani even today continues to make strong statements on the social media and it is clear that he wants to attract the young and educated in Kashmir. He posts videos online with anti India messages and speaks not just about an independent Kashmir, but also dreams of hoisting the Islamic flag at Red Fort.
War on the social media:
It is quite clear that Wani has learnt the art of warfare on the social media. It seems to have paid rich dividends as of now and he has managed to rope in at least 3 dozen youth into his fold. Militants in Kashmir seem to be taking a cue out of the ISIS and the al-Qaeda which have largely relied on the social media to fight their propaganda war.
Taking advantage of a slow response on part of the security agencies in taking down these videos, Wani has now posted a clip in which he is hugging a militant and speaking about how the anti-India war needs to be waged. This is a video which has gone viral on the social media and is aimed at recruiting several educated youth.
Wani has been active on the social media since the age of 16. He was a brilliant student and a great lover of cricket. However since the age of 16 he started showing signs of extemism and today he is one of the youngest commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen.
