Kanchipuram (TN) Apr 17: DMK president M Karunanidhi today lambasted Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for seeking adjournments on an Income Tax returns case and said justice would eventually prevail. Addressing an election rally here, he hit out at her for seeking adjournment in the Supreme Court by citing that she has to canvas for her party for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls.

Quoting from the play "Neethi Devan Mayakkam," (The Judge's Dilemma) written by DMK founder C N Annadurai, he said, "Eventually the verdict will render justice (in the case). Time will surely give a good answer."

On April 15, the Supreme Court had extended by three months the four-month deadline for wrapping up the trial in the alleged tax evasion case involving Jayalalithaa in view of the ongoing general elections.

However, the apex court said the trial court in Chennai will take appropriate steps for ensuring the personal appearance of Jayalalithaa and other accused after it was alleged that they were adopting dilatory tactics.

Karunanidhi reeled out statistics to claim that Tamil Nadu had witnessed a growth rate of 10.08 per cent in 2009-10 when DMK was in power, which increased to 11.01 per cent in 2010-11.

"In the AIADMK regime, however, growth rate decreased to 7.4 per cent and in 2012-13, further diminished to 4.14 per cent and I am quoting from Planning commission documents," he said, adding Tamil Nadu also witnessed rapid industrial growth during the DMK's tenure.
