Karnataka Budget 2017: Govt wants 100% 'preference' to Kannadigas in private sector

The Karnataka government during its budget 2017-18 proposed to move towards ensuring 100 percent preference for Kannadigas in private sector. The preference is only applicable to group C and group D categories of posts in all private companies that have established businesses in the state.

According to the government's announcement, steps will be taken to ensure that the local population is accommodated into Group C' posts that ideally includes posts that perform supervisory as well as operative tasks. It could also include clerical assistances in organisations. The proposal also includes group D' posts are meant for carrying out routine duties of office assistant, housekeeping etc.

The budget also proposed to push private sector organisations to dedicate 5 percent of posts to employ differently-abled persons. To help employ candidates from the SC and ST community, the government has agreed to pay administration's contributions towards ESI. Accident cover and security funds through smart cards were announced for hawkers, household helps and ragpickers at the cost of Rs 10 crore.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also announced 61 new ESI hospitals, development of 100 ESI hospitals in Davangere, Hubballi and Belagavi. The budget also proposed to modernise the ESI hospital in Indiranagar with super speciality wards.
