Karnataka Budget 2017: Modernisation of slaughter houses proposed

While announcing what is touted to be his last budget, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced measures to modernise and develop existing slaughter houses and meat shops in the state.

Karnataka budget pushes for modernisation of slaughter houses

The budget proposed to build two modern slaughter houses at a cost of Rs 7.25 crore. The budget also proposed to develop and modernise existing slaughter houses and small meat shops across the state with the financial aid of Rs 1.25 lakh each. Rs 5 lakh will be spent to develop and modernise existing mean shops while each shop will also get financial assistance. The government proposed to set up 40 Wool and skin godowns for the use of registered sheep cooperative societies over a span of two years.

In budget announced Rs 10,000 compensation to farmers who lose cattle in accidents in the absence of insurance. Rs 2500 and Rs 5000 will be paid as compensation to farmers for every sheep that dies depending on its age.
