Kamal Haasan joins Swachh Bharat drive on his 60th birthday; cleans up Chennai lake
Kamal, with volunteers from his fan-run social welfare organisations, cleaned up a lake outside Chennai, as part of Swachh Bharat Mission, taking forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision.
The Swachh Bharat mission was launched by Modi on October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. Kamal was one of the several prominent celebrities and politicians he had challenged to take forward and involve others in a gigantic country-wide cleaning drive.
Born on 7 November 1954 in Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, Kamal has acted in over 200 films in several Indian languages including tamil, malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi.
Kamal began his film career as a child artist in 'Kaluthur Kannamma' and won the National Award for Best Child Artist in 1960. He is the only actor to have won three National Awards for Best Actor and 19 Filmfare Awards.
