Justice S R Nayak in running for Karnataka Lokayukta post
New Delhi, Dec 18: The name of Justice S R Nayak has been doing the rounds for the post of the Karnataka Lokayukta. With Justice Bhaskar Rao resigning to the post following various allegations of shielding his son who is mired in corruption charges, the post remains vacant.
The Karnataka government has made it clear that it will not the institution die and is considering various names for the post of Lokayukta.
According to sources in the Karnataka law department, the name of Justice Nayak is also being considered for the post. Earlier the rules stated that only a person who has been a Chief Justice or judge of the Supreme Court can be appointed to the post.
However with the newly amended rules, a person who has had a ten year tenure in the High Court can also be considered to the post of Lokayukta. Justice S R Nayak a former judge of the Karnataka High Court has also served as the chairperson in the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission and the Karnataka Law Commission.
Meanwhile Justice Subhash B Adi has moved the Karnataka High Court challenging the ouster motion adopted against him from the post of upa-Lokayukta. The matter will be taken up for hearing today.
