New Delhi, Aug 7: A day after it was reported that a Mumbai-based journalist wanted to join ISIS and sympathised with 1993 blast convict Yakub Memon, who was hanged on July 31 in Nagpur jail, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police from Delhi on Friday, Aug 7.
He was reportedly arrested from near the Iraqi embassy in Delhi, earlier today. The embassy alerted the Delhi Police that a man was talking about ISIS. He was reportedly taken to south Delhi's Vasant Vihar police station, for further questioning.
However, the police is still ascertaining the exact details about the man before they can confirm that the man in question is Zuber Ahmed Khan.
Earlier, his internet protocol was traced to Delhi. Moreover, he had informed his friends and family that he would be leaving for Delhi and will be there for five days. [This 'journalist' calls Yakub Memon a 'patriot', wants to join ISIS!]
He had said that he would leave by Rajdhani express to Delhi and would take Iraq citizenship from the embassy.
The Mumbai police are tight lipped about the arrest and say that a verification is still on.
Khan is said to be a resident of Kalamboli area in Navi Mumbai. On Tuesday, Aug 4, police was close to nabbing him in Bandra, but the man managed to give slip to the police.
In his social media post, addressed to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, he had said that "he wished to give up his Indian citizenship and become a spokesperson for the ISIS".
Following the alert on his post, Mumbai police had alerted Delhi Police about the same. The Delhi Police was since then keeping a tab on whether he would visit the Iraq embassy.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan and Iraq embassies were also intimated about this person.
