JNU row: Delhi police says enough evidence for sedition charges

New Delhi, Feb 15: The Delhi police has launched a probe to trace the tweet supposedly put out by Lashkar-e-Tayiba (Let) chief Hafiz Saeed in the aftermath of the JNU campus row.

Sundari Nanda, the special commissioner of police (operations), Delhi informed that they are in the process of identifying the person behind the tweet.

A tweet supporting which supported the pro Afzal Guru protest at the JNU was put out in the name of Hafiz Saeed. The handle has now been taken down and Nanda informed that they are in the process of identifying who exactly this person was.

Sedition charges justified:

Meanwhile the Delhi police say that the charges of sedition are justified. Sedition charges were not registered on the basis of hear say, but after finding prima facie evidence, B S Bassi, police commissioner of Delhi said.

There are multiple angles that are being probed and we are confident of cracking this case.

We need to find out who organised the protest and at whose behest, Bassi also said. Apart from the protest, we are also looking at whether any of the students on the campus had terror links, the top cop also said.

It is the local police which will look into this case and based on the videos and photographs that we have of the event, we are confident of cracking it soon, Bassi also said.
