Mumbai, March 30: In a major security breach, a man travelling in Chandigarh-Mumbai Jet Airways flight 9W469 opened the emergency exit door and jumped off at the aircraft's wing while it had just landed at the parking bay of Mumbai airport.
The incident happened around 3 pm on Friday, March 27 at the Mumbai airport, when Akash Jain's daring stunt left other passengers shell-shocked.
On Saturday night, he was arrested from Bandra under Section 336 of the IPC and Section 29 of the Indian Aircraft Act, 1937.
An official of Airport police station said, "We have arrested 27-year-old Jalandhar-based Akash Jain for endangering the life of other passengers and security of the aircraft."
Police said that after he jumped from the aircraft's wing, he straight away walked towards the exit of the airport.
Police also said that Akash had run away from home with Rs 30,000. At first he had planned to go to Goa via Mumbai, but he later changed the plan.
The police is investigating whether he suffers from any mental ailment.
Soon after the incident, the police contacted Akash's uncle in Jalandhar, who said they have filed a missing complaint with the local police after he went missing.
Meanwhile, Jet Airways issued a statement after the incident saying, "A guest travelling on Jet Airways flight 9W 469 from Chandigarh to Mumbai opened the emergency door and disembarked alighting onto the aircraft's wings after the aircraft had come to a standstill at the parking bay at Mumbai airport. Security agencies were immediately alerted and are carrying out further investigations."
However, it has been reported that Jet security staff informed the security agencies at the airport about the incident only around 3.40pm.
The plane, a Boeing 737 flight was carrying 144 passengers and 5 crew members onboard.
Akash Jain wanted to ape Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar!
Shockingly, as per a report published in Mid Day, Akash was quoted as saying, "I wanted to perform a stunt like Akshay Kumar, because I am his fan, and hence I jumped off the aircraft."
"He told us that he had seen Akshay Kumar performing stunts in the movies and wanted to perform one himself. He added that the fact that passengers are repeatedly told to open the emergency doors only in case of an emergency made him want to open it more," the Airport Police official added.
Akash Jain will remain in judicial custody till Saturday, April 4.
