JD-S leader’s properties raided by taxmen in Karnataka
A team of 50 personnel from the Income Tax Department raided properties of the leader in Mangaluru and Bengaluru
Officials from the Income Tax department carried out raids at residences of businessman and politician B M Farooq on Thursday. Farooq, a JD-S leader was also the party's official nominee for the Rajya Sabha elections in 2016. A team of close to 50 personnel from the Income Tax Department are said to have conducted raids in properties belonging to Farooq in Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
Of the five candidates who were in the fray for the biennial elections to four seats in Rajya Sabha, JD-S' Farooq declared the highest wealth with combined value of movable assets worth Rs 737 crore and Immovable assets of Rs 544.67 crore. The election was marred with controversies of candidates paying huge sums of money to buy votes with allegations being made against Congress and JD-S largely.
It may be noted that Farooq is also a relative of Moideen Bawa, a Congress MLA from Coastal Karnataka. Raids are being conducted at Farooq's residences and offices in both cities.
