Jayalalithaa's counsel Nageshwar Rao joins elite list with direct Supreme Court appointment
New Delhi, May 7: L Nageshwar Rao who is representing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa will jojn the elite club of advocates who will be appointed directly to the Supreme Court. He is the seventh person in the history of the country to be appointed as judge of Supreme Court directly.
Rao a senior counsel has been representing Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case. In fact two weeks back he had concluded arguments in the case. In addition to this he has also been arguing for Tamil Nady against the conduct of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test of 2016-17.
In addition to Rao, the collegium has also recommended the names of Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar and Justice Ashok Bhushan for appointment as Supreme Court judges.
While these names have been recommended by the Supreme Court's collegium, the ministry for law and justice is yet to clear the same. As per the procedure, the names will have to be cleared by the law ministry.
