Bengaluru, Oct 12: The visit by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP's National President Amit Shah to Chennai to check on the health of Tamil Nadu chief minister, J Jayalalithaa has been preponed. The two leaders will land in Chennai at 12.30 pm and visit Apollo hospital at 3 pm.
As per the earlier schedule, Shah and Jaitley were supposed to visit the hospital at 5 pm. The visit comes a day after finance minister of Tamil Nadu took over the charge of the portfolios being handled by Jayalalithaa. He will now be able to convene cabinet meetings. The decision was taken following the intervention by the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Recently BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu had visited Chennai and said that Jayalalithaa was recovering well. Rahul Gandhi too visited Apollo hospital and said that she would be back to work soon. Both leaders, however, also said that they did not see Jayalalithaa, but called on the doctors at the hospital who were attending to her.
Jayalalithaa has been admitted to the Apollo hospital in Chennai. A bulletin on Monday said that she continues to undergo treatment and is being constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants in the expert panel.
Necessary respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy are given, the statement also read.
Ever since the Tamil Nadu chief minister has been admitted to the hospital, several leaders have visited her. All those who visited her including Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi have said that she is being given the best of treatment and will be well soon.
The opposition in Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, have been demanding that an interim chief minister be appointed. The demand comes in the backdrop of reports suggesting that the administration in Tamil Nadu is being run by Jayalalithaa's advisor, Sheela Balakrishnan and the Chief Secretary.
The AIADMK has rejected demands for an interim CM and say that there is no such constitutional provision. They also say that she will be well and back to work very soon.
