It was one of the most awaited orders of the year. The 21-year-old disproportionate assets case more famously known as Jayalalithaa DA case was finally decided on Tuesday by the Supreme Court. The court reversed the order of acquittal passed by the Karnataka high court and upheld the trial court order which convicted Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran.
The Supreme Court agreed on every point that the trial court had made. It made several observations regarding corruption before concluding that a case of disproportionate assets had been made out. As a result of this verdict Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran will have to spend four years in jail. The case against Jayalalithaa stands abated as she is no more.
