New Delhi, Aug 20: Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the death of world-renowned yoga guru B K S Iyengar whom he hailed as "great lion of Indian yoga".

"My homage to the great lion of Indian yoga who passed away today. He made Pune the capital of yoga and spread it all over the world," Javdekar said in a condolence message. Iyengar passed away early this morning in Pune following illness.

96-year-old Iyengar had been ailing for some time and was admitted to a private hospital here a week back. He was put on dialysis after his condition worsened two days back. He breathed his last at 3.15 AM.
