J&K govt may be in place by end of March
New Delhi, Mar 23: Following the meeting between PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and Prime Minister Narendra Modi there has been a lot of optimism about the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.
This state which has been under President's rule since January is in desperate need of a government. If everything falls in line, then a government would be in place by March end, sources tell OneIndia.
Following the meeting, Mehbooba told the media that the outcome of the meeting was positive. Mehbooba later met with her party legislators and in the next couple of days would elect Abdul Rehman Basit as the legislature party leader.
He in turn would propose the name of Mehbooba as the chief minister.
Post the meeting with Modi, there things have been moving at a brisk pace in the PDP camp. Most of the PDP legislators have heaved a sigh of relief that the formation of the government was back on track as none of them were ready to face an election in the near future.
Mehbooba who will take over as Chief Minister once the government is formed, will have to be elected to one of the houses within six months. Currently she is a Lok Sabha MP.
Once the leader of the legislature party is elected, the PDP will meet with the governor and convey their decision to form the government with the BJP. This is expected to take place before the end of this month.
