With the BJP firm on not re-negotiating the agenda of alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir, the ball is in the court of Mehbooba Mufti. The BJP and the PDP were given a February 2 deadline to decide on the fate of the alliance by the Governor, N N Vohra.

When the BJP leaders meet with the Governor on Tuesday, they will tell him that they are interested in continuing with the alliance. However the agenda of alliance cannot be re-negotiated and hence it is up to Mehbooba to take a final call, the BJP would tell the Governor.

Let Mehbooba decide

The BJP has made it clear that it is not interested in breaking the alliance. However the BJP does not want to be pushed to the back seat by the PDP which has making a host of demands if the alliance has to continue. The BJP says that it had negotiated the terms of the alliance before the government was formed.

It took two months to negotiate the terms and doing it again makes no sense.

On the other hand when the PDP leaders meet with the Governor, they would inform him about certain assurances that they want.

They want in writing from the BJP that there will be no change in the special status under Article 370 granted to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The PDP wants an assurance from both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah on this issue.
