Now all women battalion to take on stone pelters in Kashmir
The women battalion will primarily deal with incidents like stone pelting in the Kashmir valley and other law and order duties.
The women India Reserve battalion will now help take on the stone pelters in Jammu and Kashmir. The centre will raise a battalion comprising around 1,000 women which will assist the state police to deal with incidents such as stone pelting.
The decision to raise such a battalion was taken at the review meeting that was chaired by Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh. The police women will be part of the five India Reserved Battalions which had been sanctioned by the central government.
The centre has said that one among the five IRBs must be made an all women battalion. It may be recalled that the recruitment for the five battalions has already been done. Out of the 1,40,000 applications, 6,000 were from women.
The women battalion would have an upper hand to counter the stone pelters considering there are many women as well. Off late several women stone pelters too have been coming on to the streets. In such events, the women's battalion will help counter the situation better.
