J&K: Anti-India slogans raised, stones hurled

After the Friday prayers, hundreds of protesters gathered at Kashmir's Nowhatta area and started chanting pro-freedom slogans.

Srinagar: Protests and clashes erupted in Nowhatta area of downtown Srinagar shortly after the Friday prayers. According to reports, a groups of youth tried to take a march from Jamia Masjid area and started chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, but were stopped by the government forces which were deployed in that area.

J&K: Violence breaks out in Srinagar

As the forces barred the youth, stone hurling clashes ensued in the area. However, forces resorted by firing teargas shells to disperse the protesters. There were no reports of anyone getting injured during the clashes.

On February 15, General Bipin Rawat gave out a strong message to those obstructing army operations. "Those who obstruct our ops during encounters and are not supportive will be treated as over ground workers of terrorists," he said.

General Rawat added that the army will treat locals displaying Islamic State and Pakistan flags as anti-nationals and take action against them. "If locals who want to continue with terror by displaying flags of IS and Pak then we'll treat them as anti-nationals and will not spare them," he said.
