In their efforts to merge the two warring factions of the AIADMK, Edappadi Palanisamy's camp decided to yield to O Panneerselvam's demand. OPS' primary demand was Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran's ouster from party posts.
"This is the decision of 1.5 crore party cadres and we are united. We will not accept this family ruling us anymore. People of Tamil Nadu do not want one family to control the party and the government. They want Sasikala and Dinakaran ousted from the party and we will move forward without them," said finance minister Jayakumar.
The annoucment was made after a meeting of ministers at the chief minister's residence on Tuesday evening. The minister also said that the party has decided to 'delink' Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran from the party.
"A committee has been formed to look over the process of new leadership. The party will be run by a committee and not a family. The decision has been taken to protect Amma's party," the minister added.
With this, both factions of the AIADMK are headed towards a merger while Sasikala and the Mannargudi clan is being pushed to political oblivion.
