Nandan Nilekani appointed Chairman of Infosys board
Infosys on Thursday confirmed that Nandan Nilekani has been appointed as the Chairman of the IT giant's board. The company has also accepted the resignation of R Seshasayee who will now be replaced by Nandan Nilekani.
Nilekani will work as a non-executive, non-independent director of the company with immediate effect. The decision was taken in the Board of Directors meeting by Infosys on Thursday. Seshasayee's resignation comes as an anticipated move since Nandan Nilekani is said to have insisted on a clean slate ahead of his return.
Soon after Vishal Sikka's resignation, the entire board barring Punita Sinha and Roopa Kudwa had offered to resign. In a letter to all stock exchanges, Company Secretary AGS Manikantha confirmed that Nandan Nilekani will be the Chairman of the board of directors at Infosys. Along with Seshasayee, the company has also accepted the resignation of Prof Jeffery Lehman, Prof John Etchemendy as directors of the board.
Infosys in a statement also confirmed that Ravi Venkatesan's resignation as co-chairman has also been accepted. He will, however, continue to be an Independent Director of the company. The big shuffle comes days after speculation was rife that Nilekani was to make a comeback. Vishal Sikka's resignation had left the company embarrassed after the board attacked co-founder Narayana Murthy for the resignation publicly. Nilekani, a former CEO of Infosys is making a comeback at a time when the company needed a known and reliable face at the helm of affairs.
Nilekani's first challenge would be to appoint a CEO for the company.
