No news of youth from Karnataka

Ever since Faiz Mohammad, Abdul Khuddus and Umar Subhan went missing, the Intelligence Bureau has been trying to find out about their whereabouts. While Masood and Subhan hail from Bengaluru, Khuddus is from Vijayapura in North Karnataka.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that there is no information regarding their whereabouts. They could have either gone to Iraq or Syria, the officers suspect. They have been missing since 2013 itself.

All these youth however did not reach Syria directly. One took the route through Yemen while the other went to Saudi Arabia first.

Families not intimated

An officer in the Bengaluru police department says that the families have not been intimated. There is no clear information regarding the whereabouts of these youth as of now and hence it is unfair to tell the families anything.

Moreover we have not been intimated by the officials in New Delhi about their whereabouts. Their status still shows as missing and there is no confirmation whether these youth are dead or alive, the officer also pointed out.

The police are still trying to ascertain whether these youth had actually joined the ISIS or not. There is absolutely nothing to show as of now where exactly these persons are the officer further pointed out.

Recruiter is dead

Speaking about the Karnataka link to the ISIS, it would be important to point out the role of Sultan Ahmed Armar. He was part of the Indian Mujahideen but later formed a group called the Ansar-ul-Tawhid which recruited Indian youth for the ISIS.

However Armar who is a resident of Bhatkal died while fighting in Syria a month back. This news was in fact put out on all social media sites run by the ISIS. Intelligence Bureau officials too confirmed that Armar may have died while fighting in Syria.
