The Maharashtra ATS has been investigating several cases relating to the ISIS. Only recently, a Muslim girl from Pune was stopped while trying to join the ISIS. The girl was a bright Class XI student, studying in a city college. Her movements were being monitored by the ATS and significant changes in her lifestyle was observed both by the agents and her parents. For instance, she started wearing Burqa and did away with jeans.

According to the ATS, the girl was drawn to the ISIS ideology after watching a documentary on television and subsequently following the terror organization on the Internet. Later, she got in touch with ISIS contacts and also spoke to 200 youngsters who joined the organization.

The teenage girl had expressed her desire to join the ISIS, but was stopped following an Intelligence Bureau intercept. She was later sent for counselling and is currently undergoing a de-radicalisation programme.
