Intolerant trolls silence 22-year-old singer from Karnataka
Suhana Sayed who won appreciation for her singing talent was viciously trolled on facebook by members of a page called Mangalore Muslims.
A 22-year-old singer from Karnataka has been trolled and threatened for singing a Hindu devotional song for auditions in a reality show. Suhana Sayed who won appreciation for her singing talent was viciously trolled on facebook by members of a page called Mangalore Muslims.
Some of the abusive messages shamed her for singing a Hindu devotional song while others called her a traitor to her religion. "Suhana, you have tarnished the Muslim Community by singing in front of men," said a comment on facebook. The group went on to shame the singer's parents for encouraging her. "Do not think that you have achieved anything great, people who learn to recite Quran in 6 months have achieved more than you. Your parents have encouraged you to show your beauty to other men and they will not go to heaven because of you," the abusive statement added. She was even asked to give up her veil since she did not respect it.
Hundreds of people have come out in support of the young singer. While the judges gave her a standing ovation after her performance, one of them even complimented her that she stood as a symbol of unity and showed how all religions can live in harmony through music, the same, however, can definitely not be said about the trolls who threatened this artist into silence.
