India's tallest Tricolour to be hoisted in Ranchi on Saturday

Ranchi, Jan 18:India's largest tricolour will be hoisted on the country's tallest flagpost here on January 23 to coincide with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chadra Bose, an official of the temple where it is sited said on Monday.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will hoist the flag at the Pahari temple in Ranchi.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das invited Parrikar for the event during a meeting in Delhi on Sunday, the Chief Minister's Office said.

While the mast is 293-feet high, the flag will measure 99x66 feet.

The previous highest flagpost at 250 ft is in Faridabad on the outskirts of the national capital, with the tricolour measuring 96X64 feet.

The project cost is Rs.1.25 crore, including Rs.44 lakh for the tricolour. The flag was put on public display on Sunday at the Morabadi ground here.

According to people associated with the temple management, many freedom fighters were hanged by the British colonial rulers on the hill where the temple lies. The tricolour is hoisted at the temple every Republic Day and Independence Day. Now, it will be a permanent feature at the spot.
