Reportedly, all the consulate staff are safe.
According to police, the three attackers opened fire on the consulate from a nearby home. Two of them was killed by police, while the third gunman continued the assault.
So far, no organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Insurgent attacks of similar nature is rampant in Afghan as international troops are preparing to withdraw from the war-torn nation by the end of the year.
Foreign embassies in the country is a favourite target of Muslim extremists. It must be remembered that in September 2013, Taliban attackers had launched a smilar assault on U.S. Embassy the country, killing at least four Afghans.
