Vizhinjam (Kerala), Dec 6: At an impressive ceremony held at Vizhinjam harbour today, Indian Coast Guard Ship C-404 was commissioned by Shri. EK Bharat Bhushan, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Kerala.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Bhushan said that Indian Coast Guard Ships and Aircraft can undertake maritime activities such as search and rescue, rendering assistance to mariners and fisher folk in distress, medical evacuation and marine environment protection, strict enforcement of marine laws often braving bad seas, heavy winds and rains.
The induction of interceptor boat C-404 will enhance the capability of the Coast Guard to respond to emergent situations in Coastal Security, Search & Rescue and enforcement of Maritime laws off Kerala coast.
C-404 is the fourth in its series of Interceptor Boats (IB) built by M/s L&T Ship Yard Ltd, Surat with 28.3 Mtrs length and 96 Ton displacement. The vessel is commanded by Deputy Commandant TN Ngamelin with a crew compliment of eleven personnel.
The water jet propelled vessel has an endurance of 500NM at 25 knots and is capable of doing maximum speed up to 45 knots. The vessel is fitted with latest state of art navigation and communication equipment and medium range armament. The vessel is designed for close coast and shallow water operations and it will be based at Beypore after commissioning. Inspector General SPS Basra, Commander Coast Guard Region (West) welcomed all the audience.
