MiG-27 crashes in Rajasthan's Barmer, pilot of IAF fighter jet safe; 1 injured

Barmer, Jan 27: A MiG-27 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed in Rajasthan's Barmer on Tuesday.

As per reports, the pilot ejected safely before the crash.

The Air Force has ordered a court of inquiry into the crash. The IAF fighter jet crashed while on routine sortie.

A part of the aircraft fell on a motorcycle and the man riding it got injured. 

Police sources in Barmer told sources that the aircraft hit a motorcycle that led to injuries to the rider, who was admitted to a hospital. The motorcycle was badly burnt.

Defence spokesperson Lt. Col. Manish Ojha said the aircraft crashed at 3.10 pm in a village in Barmer. He said the plane had taken off from Jodhpur on a routine sortie to the Uttarlai air base in Barmer.

Earlier in May 2014, a MIG-21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Anantnag district in Kashmir.

The MIG-21, which was on a routine exercise, crashed in the fields at Mirhama in Bijbehara area, defence sources said. Pilot Raghu Bansi was killed in the crash.
