India's cleanest and dirtiest cities: Chandigarh is the cleanest !
Bangalore, Oct 6: On this October 2 - Gandhi Jayanti day - people across the country wielded brooms, determined to sweep dirt off their cities, towns and villages. As part of the Swachh Bharat programme, the Ministry of Urban Development conducted a survey to find out the dirtiest and cleanest Indian cities.

Guess which is the cleanest Indian city. It's Chandigarh ! The north Indian city beat Mysore, Surat and Delhi to win the top position.

Churu city in the desert region of Rajasthan has been rated as the dirtiest city in India. BJP's Rahul Kaswan is the current MP from Churu constituency.

Churu is followed by Lakhimpur city and Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, Srinagar and Jhunjhunu city in Rajasthan. Pilibhit is Maneka Gandhi's constituency. Jhunjhunu is infamous for its high crime rate too.

The dirtiest metro cities are Navi Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Greater Mumbai.

The survey was conducted in 423 Indian cities and 72% of the urban population was covered. Each city was rated on 19 sanitation indicators and a 100 points scale.
