India’s 1st LGBT cab service all set to hit Mumbai roads
Mumbai, Jan 21: In an attempt to empower and employ members of LGBT community, a radio cab service named 'Wings Rainbow' is being launched in Mumbai that will be driven by these socially neglected people.
The cab service is being launched jointly in Mumbai by Humsafar Trust and Wings Travel to ferry you across the city.
People of the LGBT community and transgenders are denied normal jobs forcing them to indulge into flesh trade. But this step will help the transgenders and gays earn a living as well as break the stereotypes by making their presence felt in the city.
As per a TOI report, the programme will focus on training five members of the community with skills to drive a radio cab. After six extensive months of drivers' training and soft skills to help them better their social conduct, they will be helped to certified driving licenses. Wings Rainbow is expected to roll in a year's time.
"Once we establish these five drivers we will increase the fleet. We have provision for at least 1500 and hope more people from the community join in," Arun Kharat, founder of Wings Travels, was quoted by the news daily as saying.
One of the drivers was quoted as saying that people will finally know what they are capable of and this move will help them lead their life with dignity.
