New Delhi, Dec 14: Shahbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif, on his visit to India said that India-Pakistan should resume peace talks. On Thursday, India brought up the issue of ceasefire violations along the LoC.

Shahbaz, the brother of Nawaz Sharif and the chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, further emphasised that the Director General of Military Operations should meet as early as possible for tranquility and peace along LoC.

In a press meet, immediately after a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Shahbaz said that he assured the Indian premier that Pakistan was always in favour of peace and speedy resolution of issues related to Siachen, water, Sir Creek, and Kashmir.

"War is not an option but brushing our problems under the carpet is also not an option...like intelligent and prudent nations, we should resolve issues between us,'' he added. On whether the PM had accepted the invite to visit Pakistan, Shahbaz said, ''he appreciated the sentiments expressed by the Pakistan PM ...let's hope he visits Pakistan," he said.

He added,'Pakistan itself is a victim of militancy and terrorism. We strongly condemn all shades of militancy."

However, he was averse to answer any categorical question on the activities of Jamaat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed.
