On Monday, the residents of IT hub Bengaluru in Karnataka heaved a sigh of relief as the city received rainfall in the evening. However, not all were lucky like the Bengalureans as temperature crossed above 41 degrees Celsius in various parts of the country including Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, to name a few places, on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in several parts of the country. If temperature crossed above 41 degrees Celsius in Delhi, Mahabubnagar in Telangana sizzled at 44.5 degrees Celsius on Monday.

It was Maharashtra that bore the worst impact of rise in temperatures. Heatwave conditions gripped large parts of Maharashtra with the mercury soaring to 46 degrees Celsius in Chandrapur and its Brahmapuri sub-district in Vidarbha region and hovering between 41-45 degrees in many other parts, the IMD said.

Reports say that more than 31 people have died in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and nine in Maharashtra due to sunstroke.
