Independence Day: Dirty chairs at Red Fort

Red Fort
New Delhi, Aug 15: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on cleanliness Friday, chairs placed for mediapersons at the Independence Day event at the Red Fort were dusty and dirty -- and rusty too.

Around 200 green covered rexine chairs, arranged in five rows in front of the area from where Modi spoke, were covered in thick layers of dust. Some even had paint and grease marks.

The nuts and nails in the steel frame were rusted.

The mediapersons used their handkerchiefs to clean the chairs. Some wiped them clean with the invitation cards issued to cover the event.

To add to the woes, the chairs were kept on an uneven ground with potholes, which meant that people had a tough time finding a comfortable position to sit.

The fact that the chairs were tied together with a thin steel wire, making them impossible to move, made matters worse.
