As banks opened today to exchange currency, several customers came out sporting the new Rs 2,000 note. This was the first time that the new Rs 2,000 note was made available to the general public.
The new notes would be available to the public though ATMs from tomorrow onwards. The RBI had announced that ATMs would start dispensing the new notes from Friday onwards.
People had started thronging the banks early this morning. Banks witnessed a large number of people who queued up to get their notes exchanged. At first there was confusion among both the customers and the bank officials. However during the course of the day some banks reported smooth operations.
Coming out the banks many people look relieved. People who had the Rs 2,000 note with them obliged photographers for pictures as well. The relief was not that they had a Rs 2,000 note in their hand, but because their money had been exchanged.
