In Bihar assembly polls the men outnumber the women

Patna, Oct 20: The third phase of the Bihar assembly elections will witness 71 women candidates contesting the polls. Out of the total 808 candidates contesting the elections, 71 are women candidates. In all the three phases the men have outnumbered the women by a huge margin.

In the second phase of the elections there were 31 women contesting the polls while in the first phase the number of women contesting was 53.[Bihar Election 2015: Special Coverage]

This report prepared by the Association for Democratic Reforms compares the selection of women candidates in the three phases of the elections to Bihar.

The women candidates:

In the first phase of the elections there were 53 (9%) female candidates who contested the elections. The total number of candidates contesting the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections was 583.

In the second phase of the Bihar elections there were a total of 456 candidates. Out of the 456 the number of women contesting the polls was 31. 31 (7%) female candidates are contesting in the second phase of Bihar assembly elections this year in the second phase.

In the third phase there are a total of 808 candidates who are contesting the elections. According to the data available 71 (9%) female candidates are contesting in the third phase of Bihar assembly elections this year.

The age factor:

In the first phase of the Bihar polls, 418 (72%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 157 (27%) candidates have declared their age to be

between 51 and 80 years. While 6 candidates have not disclosed their age details, 2 candidates have declared their age to be above 81 years.

In the second phase 323 (71%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 128 (28%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. 5 candidates have not disclosed their age details.

In the third phase of the Bihar assembly elections 576 (72%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 226 (28%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years.

While 2 candidates have not disclosed their age details, 1 candidate has declared to be above the age of 80 years.
