According to media reports, the girl has been identified as Vedantam L Prathyusha and she went missing on Sunday, Jan 17.
In her hostel room, she left behind a goodbye note saying that she is leaving for a pilgrimage to the Himalayas, to attain sainthood and to learn about higher facts of life.
Her note further stated that she would be under the protection of god and never to be found again by her kith and kin.
Prathyusha hails from Brodipet in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and is a second-year MS student in the IIT-Madras department of engineering design.
Five-page note was found from her hostel room, out of which 2 were written in English and three were in Telugu.
According to police officials, the note written stated that she wanted to have an adventure and do research in spirituality.
When Pratyusha went missing, then her friends tried calling her, but number could not be reached, then they called her parents, who said that she has not returned to home also.
Based on family's request, IIT Madras authorities filed a missing complaint at Kotturpuram police. The search is on to locate her. Her parents are on the way to Chennai.
