IIT Madras celebrates its 52nd Convocation
Chennai, July 24: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) on Friday celebrated its 52nd Convocation Day. Padma Bhushan awardee Prof. Manjul Bharagava, R Bradon Fradd Professor of Mathematics, Princeton University, USA, were the ceremony's chief guest.
A total of 2234 degrees were awarded this year.
Prof Bharagava was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by the institute.
Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Madras & Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, presided over the function.
Chief Guest handed over the prizes to the students
Prof Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras awarded the degrees to the students. This year's convocation marked the first time that Dual Degrees (M.S and PhD) were being awarded.
A total of 2234 degrees were awarded.
The entire function was live web-cast to facilitate viewing by parents, relatives, friends of students and alumni across the globe.
