IIT Bhubaneswar professor 'censured' for mentally harassing girls
Bhubaneshwar, Jan 12: Taking action on complaints lodged by two M Tech girls of country's premiere technical institute, IIT Bhubaneswar (IITBBS), a professor has been suspended for their mental harassment.
As per a TOI report, "Sources said the IIT took action against the professor this weekend after the minutes of a meeting of the board of governors (BOG) held in New Delhi in December reached here. The BOG, under the chairmanship of S K Roongta, took the decision on the basis of inquiry report by a seven-member committee."
"The institute followed the laid down procedures for such an allegation with due diligence. The faculty member concerned was censured and issued certain strictures. It is a closed chapter for us now," IITBBS director Sujit Roy told TOI.
As per the daily's report, the girls had alleged in their complaint to IIT director that the professor wanted them to visit his chamber frequently. He also use to threaten the girls by saying that if they did not come then he would spoil their career by giving them poor marks. Aftre the complaint by the girls on April 27, 2014, the institute constituted an inquiry panel to probe the same.
According to the colleagues of the professor who is a PhD from IIT Kanpur, he had many national and international awards to his credit.
The professor will not be able to hold any administrative post in the institute.
