Call it fate or the power of an astrologer, Sasikala's dreams of becoming the next chief minister of Tamil Nadu came dashing with the Supreme Court convicting her in the disproportionate case. Last week, there were reports that Sasikala's astrologer had advised her to take over as the chief minister by February 14.
The astrologer is believed to have told her that if did not take over as the CM by February 14, then she would never become the chief minister.
Ironically for Sasikala, the Supreme Court delivered its verdict on February 14 and convicted her. As a result of this verdict, Sasikala is barred from contesting an election for the next 10 years. While she cannot contest for four years while serving her sentence, under the Representation of Peoples' Act she is barred from fighting an election for six years.
Interestingly, Jayalalithaa too was a great believer of astrology. She had taken the advice of a Kerala-based astrologer in 2001 who had said that she would become chief minister. The prediction was made at a time when Jayalalithaa was barred from contesting due to a pending criminal case. His prediction however came right and the AIADMK went on to win the elections and Jayalalithaa became the CM as a non-elected member of the assembly.
Jayalalithaa was so happy that her party presented him with Rs 10 lakh and the astrologer, P U Panicker remained her most trusted astrologer.
