Bengaluru, March 17: The police are looking into multiple angles into the death of D K Ravi, who was the additional commissioner in the commercial taxes department. Ravi was found dead in his apartment under mysterious circumstances yesterday and the police have said that prima facie it is a case of suicide.

IAS death: Investigating 2 angles

The angles that the police are probing:

The police say that they are looking at multiple angles into the case. We are checking whether his alleged suicide was related to family pressure or professional hazards.

Contrary to reports appearing that he had received threat calls, the police say that he had not reported any such incident to the police. Police Commissioner of Bengaluru city, M N Reddi informed that the reports suggesting that Ravi had met with him a week back was wrong. He had not met me or reported anything about threat calls to the police, Reddi also informed.

An upright officer:

Several colleagues of Ravi and especially the residents of Kolar where he served as a Deputy Commissioner say that he was an extremely upright officer. He had taken on the high and mighty all through his career.

He had taken on the mighty sand mafia while he was in Kolar. He was then transferred and posted in the Commercial Taxes department. He had conducted several raids during his tenure.

His most recent raids were also extremely controversial in nature and he had targeted several firms and reality groups who are said to have evaded Value-Added Tax or VAT.

Too early to comment:

The police investigating team say that he had made several enemies while he was working. However, it is too early to comment whether his death was related to any of these incidents.

We are verifying his call records and also speaking to a couple of persons in this connection. He had gone to office yesterday, but had not spoken with anyone out there. He had also not interacted with anyone yesterday before he was found dead. His emails and phone records are being checked the police informed.
