With terrorist threats looming large, the Home Ministry has insisted that the PM shall deliver his address from behind a bullet proof glass enclosure at the Red Fort.
Although the Prime Minister is not in favour of delivering the address from behind a bullet proof glass enclosure, the Home Ministry says that it insists on the same as the threat levels are very serious.
Moreover there are very specific terrorist threat alerts where New Delhi is concerned, a Home Ministry official informed OneIndia.
Modi's threat levels are very high:
The Intelligence Bureau which conducts regular threat analysis says that the threat perception where Modi is concerned is extremely high. In fact he is the Prime Minister under the highest threat after Rajiv Gandhi, an IB official informed.
It is in this context that we have advised the Home Ministry to insist on a glass enclosure when he delivers the address from the Red Fort on August 15th, the officer also informed.
When Modi delivered his first Independence Day address last year after taking over as Prime Minister, he had won the argument against the Ministry for Home Affairs where the glass enclosure was concerned. There was a debate and it was Modi who insisted that the glass enclosure not be installed as he wanted to connect better with the people.
This time around the MHA is very persistent on the glass enclosure. We have conveyed it to the Prime Minister. However the PM is still not insistent on having an enclosure, the Home Ministry official informed.
Security like never before:
The security cover for the Independence Day this year is at an all time high. The hanging of Yakub Memon and the madness with which Pakistan has been directing attacks against India are all factors that have led to the enhancement of security.
All areas in and around Delhi have been sanitized. Vehicles coming into the city are being checked thoroughly and all alerts that are being received by the Intelligence Bureau are being analysed and scrutinized heavily. High rise buildings have been sanitized, officers part of the security arrangements inform.
