Hyderabad: Parents mutilated daughter for stopping her to get married

Hyderabad, July 10: 19-year-old Prathyusha, who has been rescued from a house in Hyderabad, was tortured by her parents. Now, it has been reported that the girl was being mutilated as her parents wanted to grab her property.

Prathyusha, who was scheduled to get her property at the age of 18, was told that she would get it at the time of her marriage. However, her parents had some other plans for Prathyusha.

Prathyusha's mother divorced her father Ramesh. After their divorce, her mother committed suicide. Ramesh, who got married to Saikumari, got Prathyusha's custody.

Saikumari allegedly had influenced her husband and began torturing the girl who was confined in a house for several days. According to sources, Saikumari allegedly had thrown acid on Prathyusha, so that she cannot get married.

A child rights activist, meanwhile, has been quoted as saying, "She mutilated the girl in every possible way, and wanted to portray the victim as mentally challenged. She also did not allow her to eat and asked her to commit suicide if she wanted to escape the torture."

Police arrested the step-mother and were questioning her. The girl's father is absconding. The couple has been booked for attempt to murder, torture and wrongful confinement.
